Nebraska Food FestivalPepper jellies, salsa “with an attitude”, popcorn-on-the-cob and pickled asparagus are a few of the treats promised at the annual Nebraska Food Festival, set for November 14, 2009, in the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer, 3133 West US 34, Grand Island, Nebraska. Road Trip Foodies are (of course!) more interested in the eating — and there’ll be lots of that — but there are also cooking classes and shopping from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for children.

Even if you’re not traveling I-80 on the day of the festival, consider a stop at the Stuhr Museum (exit 312), a hands-on living history experience that tells the story of early town building in Nebraska. Described as a “crossroads in time,” the museum, established in 1961, preserves and portrays the story of the pioneer town builders who created the first Euro-American communities in Nebraska between the 1840s and 1920. Stuhr Museum preserves over 150,000 historical artifacts in its collections, including 60 historic buildings and various railroad equipment.
