Taste of Antwerp — NOW!
The third edition of Belgium’s biggest culinary festival starts today (so get on that airplane, Road Trip Foodies!). Taste of Antwerp (Antwerpen Proeft in Flemish) takes place on the southern Antwerp squares called Vlaamse Kaai and Waalse Kaai. It’s free to get in, and the food fest runs today through Sunday, August 23, 2009.
The cuisines range from gastronomic and classical Belgian-French, contemporary and “molecularly audacious”, to Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Thai, Scandinavian, Spanish and African. There’s also patisserie, barbecue and cheese. In total, some 200 dishes are offered by 25 different restaurants. Dishes are served as tapas and can be bought with special Taste of Antwerp tokens. Each token is €1.90; they’re sold at ticket booths in the middle of the festival area. Dishes cost from one and nine tokens.
