Potato Days Festival is “Spud”tacular!
Potato-loving Road Trip Foodies need to make tracks to Barnesville, Minnesota, August 28 and 29, 2009, for the annual Potato Days Festival. The lowly spud takes center stage at this fest, set right in the middle of some of the best potato-producing areas of the country. There are “bushels” of activities from sunrise to sunset, from Potato Picking and Peeling Contests to the Miss Tator Tot Pageant and the, ummm, specialized art of Mashed Potato Sculpturing.
In fact, virtually everything you could possibly do to a potato is done over the two days of the festival: pick it, peel it, toss it, fry it, race it, bake it; but most of all enjoy it for a smashing good time! (This festival is absolutely perfect for family fun.)
And (don’t tell anyone, but…) there’s more than potatoes in Barnesville this weekend. A Chocolate Festival makes a brief appearance from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday in Hildebrand Hall, adjacent to Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 307 Front Street North, Barnesville. Its smorgasbord of chocolate delicacies includes (but is not limited to), cookies, candies, pies and cakes. An ice cream stand of assorted chocolate cones and brownie sundaes should satisfy the cravings of any die-hard chocoholic.
