Ethnic food vendors from as far away as Cleveland and Canada converge on the small northern Indiana community of Whiting each summer for the annual “Pierogi Fest”. This celebration of Eastern Europe’s prized pasties stuffed with everything from sausage to cabbage to plums is set for July 24, 25 and 26, 2009.
The festivities are nonstop from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 24 and 25, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 26. There’s no admission charge — the fest fills the downtown — but you’ll need cash for the food, the beer, the arts & crafts and who knows what else.
